Following the recent outbreaks of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea virus (PEDv) notified by means of the OIE, South Africa has stopped the import of the following products: - Live pigs; - Pig semen and embryos; and - Porcine plasma containing products. South Africa will consider the imports of these products subject to new veterinary health certificate requirements, negotiated with individual trade partners, which include sufficient risk mitigation measures to prevent the spread of PEDv. Interested trade partners are encouraged to provide details as to proposed risk mitigation measures which can be provided to prevent the spread of PEDv to South Africa, to initiate negotiations.
