Following two outbreaks of Pierce's disease (caused by the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa) in the province of Lecce in south-east Italy, a decision was taken to suspend imports into Morocco of host plants of this disease (olive trees, citrus fruit trees, rosaceous (stone fruit) plants, oak trees, grapevines, etc.) from Italy as a precautionary measure.
