Following the immediate notification of highly pathogenic avian influenza by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (25 May 2017), Zimbabwe (2 June 2017) and South Africa (22 June 2017) to the OIE, Mozambique is applying a precautionary sanitary measure to prevent the risk of introducing the disease and dangerous animal products and animal by-products imported from these countries. These measures include:

A temporary ban on the importation of domestic and wild birds, poultry and poultry products, day-old chicks, table and fertile eggs originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, and focus and surveillance zones in South Africa; and
Importation of fertile and table eggs, poultry and poultry products, day-old chicks from avian infuenza-free compartments, approved after 22 June 2017, which are from areas outside the focus and surveillance zones of South Africa.
