These regulations prescribe the criteria to be used in relation to use of nutrition, health and other claims on food labels in order to ensure a high level of consumer protection, that any claims made on a food label is clear, accurate and can be substantiated thereby enabling consumers to make informed and meaningful choices. It also helps to ensure fair competition to promote and protect innovation in the area of food.
